£15m monument for Olympic park

The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is planning a £15m monument as part of the Olympic Park. The structure, which will be funded by steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, will be erected in time for the start of the 2012 games. A panel is believed to be considering five shortlisted artists, with the winner to be announced within a fortnight. The former Turner prize winner Anish Kapoor and the Angel of the North designer Antony Gormley are believed to be among the five. "The mayor is keen to see stunning, ambitious, world class art in the Olympic Park," his spokesman said.
